Innovative Breakthrough in Solar Technology

In response to the urgent need to meet national greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set by the “Framework Law on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth to Address the Climate Crisis”, a Korean research team has developed a new technology that surpasses the world record efficiency in large area perovskite solar cells.

Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The Korean Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), led by President Young-Kook Lee, in collaboration with UniTest Co., Ltd., has achieved a certified efficiency of 20.6%, surpassing the previous record of 19.2% established by UtmoLight.

Commercialization and Future Prospects

KRICT and UniTest are advancing the commercialization of these high-efficiency perovskite solar cells, preparing for mass production for applications such as indoor photovoltaic products and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV).

Global Competition in Solar Technology

Countries including South Korea, China, and regions in the Middle East are competing to enhance the efficiency and commercial viability of perovskite solar cells, which are recognized for their potential to be produced at low costs.

Significance of the Achievement

This achievement is a significant milestone in overcoming technical barriers for the commercialization of large area perovskite cells, expected to contribute substantially to solar technology advancements.

Future Developments

With ongoing stability tests and industrial partnerships, KRICT and UniTest are poised to bring innovative solar solutions to market, including semi-transparent solar cells for panoramic roofs.
